Okay, as of Sept. 14, 2013 my daughter is married. As of Wed. Sept. 25, 2013 she is back from her honeymoon, and I get to bring my wife back from Tampa (watching house and dogs). I begin to assemble the money for my SR1911!

This may take a couple of months, but some time in early 2014 I should be giving all a range report.

Thanks for all of your input, as usual it is non-biased and valuable.

I just bought one about a week and a half ago. I have only put about 150 rounds through it. But so far I like it a lot. Very accurate pistol. I did some work on mine and put on an ambi safety and a mag well. I plan to compete with it in IDPA on the 5th of October. I will post how it works out for me.

BTW- The Ruger mags (you get a 7 and 8rd with the gun...factory mags often being the weakest link when it comes to 1911 reliability) are great in my experience. My Ruger 1911 mags have been nothing short of superb. I have some Tripp Research Cobra mags that I paid $40 per for (I'm sure they're worth it), but they're still sealed in plastic...because the Rugers have been utterly flawless.

Chloe offers valid points in the post above. A somewhat sloppy 1911 can generally be more reliable in a 'goes bang every time' sort of way...that logic applies to many guns in fact. And that's a noteworthy quality. Not always ideal for tight groups, but highly practical in a defensive realiability senario. I want both, even if that's asking a lot. Some Rugers offer both, some probably do not.

Ruger is one of a few viable options in this price range. Ideal, depends on the individual gun and your own specific demands.

What's this about quality issues? I've heard nothing but good about Rugers, and if there is ever a problem with one, their customer service is fantastic.

Just a fyi, ruger factory mags are made by mecgar. Best mag company out there.

RG has a SR1911, This will sound crazy....but, I like it more than my Kimber. Feels better in my hand. It just shoots better for me. Easier to take down and clean. Could have saved myself about $400. Plus the Ruger comes with 2 mags.
