I love the GP100 series and own several.
It has become my preferred handgun and IMHO is one of the best revolvers money can buy.

Having said that I might be tempted by one of the rare GP100s that are only 38 special , only if the price is right.
Because the weight/bulk of the rare 38 spc-only GP100 is nearly the same as on the .357 Magnum GP100, (which of course can still fire both 357 Magnum and 38 spc).

In a pinch if the price is right, I might pick a 38 spc only GP100 up since it's kinda rare , but dont expect extra resale due to the rarity of the 38 spc GP 100.

Still a great gun in 38 SPC, but the .357 Mag weight almost the same and can fire both rounds .
All my GP100's are the .357 Mag kind ( and as such will also fire 38 spc).

Attached is a pic of 3 different flavors of GP100

From the top the rare DAO hammerless 4.0 inch, then the now kinda standard Stainless 4(.25) inch barrel GP100 in .357 (and 38spc) and the 6 inch half lug blued GP100 also known by the cognoscenti as the GP160.

PS: Are you sure its only in 38 SPC? Those are really rare and nearly all GP100 are .357 Mag (with 38 spc ability also since thats a shorter version of the same round, of course a lot of guys with a .357 mag shoot mostly 38 spc since that's cheaper). When in doubt check whats written on the barrel.

I have the GP100 with a six inch barrel and it's a great shooting gun. It's super accurate and just a lot of fun to shoot. Mine is chambered in .357 magnum, but you can always shoot .38 special out of it if you want.

That's what I have, too. It's a work horse, very reliable. I wouldn't sell it for anything.

The Ruger Wheel guns are just good solid Guns! My wife loves her SP101 & LCR, as well as My Dad's Security six...

Unless you are getting a good deal on a used gun I would spring for the 357. The GP-100 is a heavy gun for 38 spl only.

I'll add a pound or two to that... :D

I have a couple GP100's also. They are excellent guns and will probably last forever if given reasonable care. ;)

In fact, they're usually a bit harder to sell than the .357 versions.
