Default Ruger announces SR45

http://www.ruger.com/products/sr45/models.html

No interest on my end but since I do love talking about guns and have been interested in Rugers for awhile I thought I'd see what other people's take on this new gun.

Frankly, I'm a little surprised they are bothering unless Ruger is just looking for a way to definitively kill off the P-series. I can't see it competing that well with other 10 shot .45's out there unless the street price is going to land well under the MSRP. No one is going to look at this and a S&W M&P and choose the Ruger if they are the same price.

meh im not thrilled with a double stack at 10+1 in 45. why not just get a ruger 1911. better gun. if it was closer to the xdm at 13+1 it would be more interesting.

I think the cost of the SR1911 might justify the cheaper SR45, but the magazine capacity is a letdown. Especially since the other SR series compete pretty well in that area.

I currently own an SR9C and love it. I have shot a lot of different 9mm pistols and liked the SR series the best. I only have one criticism of the 9C and that is the smaller mag capacity is 10 rounds. I understand they did it to keep it CA compliant without having to make a 3rd mag size but in truth they could probably fit 13 rounds in it if they wanted to. It's cool that you can use 17 round mags but that is at the expense of a bigger grip.

It seems like they have decided to do the same thing with the SR45. Limit the mag to 10 so it can be sold everywhere and would pass scrutiny if the new AWB passes.

If I decided I wanted a 45 I would consider it simply because of the functional similarity to the SR9c which I already carry. Other than that there are probably better options for now.

I am guessing the double stack mag is on the slim side to keep the width down to 1.27". No fat grip. The pistol is similar in size to the 1911 but with more rounds. It is also quite a bit lighter than the 1911 at a little over 30 oz. I would like to see an extended floor plate for the 10 round mag on the SR9c like they have for the Glock. That would bump the 10 round mag up to 11 or 12 and eliminate the hook plate that Ruger provides.

I'll be interested in seeing how it shoots. I love my SR40, especially the fact that I can load 15 (legally, for now.....)

I have the SR9 & the SR9c and I love them. I will definitely get the SR45 but I will wait for a while for the price to go down and for Ruger to fix all the bugs, if any.

Seems like it still leaves it open for Ruger to come out with extended mags w/grip spacer like the SR9/SR40 families. I'm hoping the "resident President" doesn't force this thru...but i'm probably just #$!@# into the wind.

I'm pretty impressed with some of the new designs that Ruger is coming out with. I don't really have any interest in the SR45, but I like seeing what they're coming up with.

I think I will take a good look at the SR45, The $529 is what my SR9c was listed for when I bought it for $420. Once this buying frenzy fades we will see what it can be bought for. Nice looking handgun though, and if it shoots as well as the 9 and 40 it will be a sweet possesion.
