Sig p229 ?'s

I finally got my sig p229 in .40s&w and could only be happier if one thing is possible. The one I got, due to availability, is double action only. My ? is; can I convert her to double/single action with a decocker like they normally come? The space is there on the frame for the decocker and from what I've see. On other p229's I would think its an easy job. Any help is much appreciated.

Wow. I have a P229 SAS E2. No clue. In sure there is a kit or modification maybe. I think the best bet would be to chat with a gunsmith. One of them should know. It's a great pistol and live mine.

I had one passed down to me recently, very nice gun.

Speaking of the P229: what are the possibilities for converting the 229 from one caliber to another?
I've been told that you can change b/w 9mm and .40 with a barrel change, but if you get a .357 it would not accommodate any other caliber conversion? What is the rule here?

I would get a complete 9mm "upper" through Sig. Then you can go between 40 and 357 with a barrel swap. And a different upper for 9mm.

Rule is if you have either the 40. or 357. you can swap barrels straight across and down to 9mm but if you have in 9mm then you must buy the caliber exchange kit to go up to 40. or 357.

The reason I'm asking is that I want a .40, but found a used .357 at a local gun shop that is absolutely mint. The guy at the gun shop told me I wouldn't be able to swap in a .40cal barrel, he said you can only swap down in caliber, not up. I'm just trying to understand why that is if you're changing the barrel?

And if a 9mm can be swapped with a .40cal (which is bigger), why can't a .357 accommodate a .40 cal barrel? Or is it something that I just have to accept as not being available?

Thanks.

The 40. barrel and the 357. barrel have the same od just different id the 9mm conversion barrels have the same od and will have a thicker wall something like a bull barrel.check here at www.efkfiredragon.com or www.wolf.com for conversion barrels.I found that Sig makes a conversion barrel in 357. and 40. but only a conversion kit in 9mm.If you buy in 9mm. unless you buy a conversion kit you will not be able to get just a conversion kit. However swapping between 357.and 40.is an even swap across.

It may depend on the series of the P229. My SAS E2 in .40 can be changed to a .357 with just a barrel swap and nothing else. To move to a 9mm I would need to change the slide and use a different magazine. I would be using the same lower. There are conversion kits available online.

I don't know about other P229's since I haven't used them.

So, if I have a P229 in .40, will I need just a barrel conversion to take it to 9mm? And then what mags would I get to hold 9mm bullets? Thanks all!
