Default SIG 1911 slide not locking back on empty mag

This happened a twice today at the range on the last 2 magazines. My pistol is always cleaned after each use and lubed prior to storage or firing.

I would want to chalk it up to a dirty magazine but it happened on both magazines. Maybe or the pin that holds the slide lock not being properly lubricated or the slide lock itself.

Beyond than that any insights aside from my 2 thoughts above? I use the original SIG Stainless Steel magazines; they appear to be very good quality, and in the 300-400 round I've shot through her, this is the first issue, minor or major.

You say with the last two mags. Was it a single mag, loaded twice or two different mags? Are they "quality" mags? The problem you describe is usually a mag problem.

It was 2 of the magazines that I own. I happened to think that the SIG mags were quality. And given that it happened with 2 separate magazines, I'm likely to think it was a malfunction of the pistol.

thoughts?

How many rounds did you fire that day? How many were in the 2 mags in question? Type of ammo? Is the slide locking back properly now?

I put my sig 1911 back together slightly wrong once and it cause the slide not to lock back when i pulled the slide back. I dont know why it did that, but i re-field stripped it and everything was dandy. Id clean the gun and mags up nice and good and do another range session testing the mags, types of ammo, and if possible, see if theres a recoil difference at any time.

Where is your thumb in this equation? If your thumb rides the slide release it may keep it from engaging after the mag empties...just a thought.

Thumbs are a non issue. I shoot lefty and keep my thumbs in line and below the slide.

False alarm. I gave her a nice thin coating of hoppes oil on the slide as well as the slide lock before I shot her today and 100 rounds mixed Fiocci, S&B and Winchester 230 grain all fired flawlessly not a FTF FTE or issue with the slide locking back on an empty Mag. And once again it shoots better than I do. This photo is 9 rounds S&B 230 FMJ at 15 yards.

One of Three things:
Thumb, but ruled out.
Follower of the mag not activating the slide stop, but the Sig "quality" mags rule that out.
The slide stop binding or rounded.

If it is the thumb, cut the thing off.
If it is the mag, get back with Sig.
If the slide stop is rounded, don't use the slide stop to allow the slide to go forward. It is a slide stop, not a slide release. And get back with Sig.
If the slide stop is binding, and the barrel link and lugs have not wore into it, get back with Sig.

Sound advice. It's a brand new gun so getting it back to SIG would be paramount provided I was able to replicate the malfunction. But thankfully all went great today. I think the slide stop was just not moving enough to lock the slide back, too dry. But a thin later of oil did the trick. Man I love that 1911 more and more everyone I shoot it.

I'm glad that things worked out!

There are not secrets with the 1911, only mysteries.
