I have a SIG 1911 and a p229. I love them both but very different. Since they're different calibers its easy...I have both. If I were choosing between a 220 and a 1911 I might pick the 1911. It's a great platform and SIG really gives you your money's worth with their 1911s.

I have a 1911, 2 P220's one Wet German the other a SS Exeter, WG P226 and a P6. The P220 will always be my favorite. But both the 1911 and P220 are fine pistols. I just like the safer carry of the P220.

I would wait until the new sig 227 comes out! its a double stack 45 acp with a 12 round standard capacity, they will be makining factory made 14 round extended mags or mag extensions or something like the one in the picture ,threaded barrel will be an option for more $$

This is bad ass 12 rounds of 45 ACP STANDARD capacity.

If you want a gun that says " its time to kick ass and chew bubble gum" id go with the p220 simply because it looks aggressive and a bit more unique, they're " hell and back reliable"its also used by some law enforcement agencies i think most use the p226 though. If you want a gun that says handsome, gentleman's gun Id go with the classic 1911 there are many makers and models allot more aftermarket parts and spare parts can be easily found for the 1911. Almost all 1911 parts are interchangeable with a little sanding and grinding ALMOST not all but im pretty sure they all use the same 1911 mags

The only reason I bought my 220 was because I already had a few 1911s (too pretty to carry on a daily basis) and wanted a 45 I could bang around. That said, a few years later I picked up a TacOps as well. It's a win win situation, either gun is a great choice.
