I own a good size "Liberty" safe with an electronic locking mechanism. Has anybody here ever looked into how hard it would be to switch-out this and re-install a spin-dial combination lock? Dealer wants $175 to do the job. It seems easy enough to buy the new parts, but the DIY is my question.

My users manual says the warranty will be voided if you don't use a locksmith for any lock work. I went with a spinner on my Liberty because I wanted it to be working long after I had quit. We'll see I guess. Well maybe I won't.

Its simple to do. my dad did the change this weekend bought the lock at a gun show from a dealer he explained how to do it and it took 5 minutes if you have any mechanical sense dont waste your money on locksmith.
Took the spinner off of my Diebold vault door and replaced it with
a digital. Took about 30 minutes. No magic involved. I realize
you are asking the opposite----but it's probably just as easy
going the other way.
I kind of liked the spinner--but my wife COULD NOT operate it
consistently. Now? Picked a 2 word phrase for the combo,
and she has no problem.
I didn't change mine. It came as a spinner. I had to look far and wide to find what I wanted with a spin lock and when I did I found a great deal on it too. $1100 for a Fatboy Jr. plus $150 delivered and installed and that's about a 100 mile delivery. I would have liked some heavier steel but I couldn't pass up the deal. It's good enough for my gun collection I guess. I'll be adding on extra security measures.

They have higher prices on the web than they do in the store usually. But I found this safe online at the price I paid for it and that's the curbside price. I guess I paid just for installation. I've bought a lot of stuff from them over the years. I've bought several guns there and they have treated me exceptionally well on all of them.
