I would consider a higher end safe than Canon. I'm in the market right now as well and have done a considerable amount of research. Superior safe company is what I am looking at and in your price range or just above in my area I see the Superior Encore series E -17 or E-22. The sales guys that I have talked to at safe stores have consistently said a few things to me. First is "what is the door made of?", composite or steel? Composite is thicker but lighter and weaker than steel, so a thinner steel door can be stronger and provide more fire protection than a thicker composite door. Second is that you are saying you have high end firearms, buying a big box store safe for custom guns seems counter intuitive to me. You wouldn't put a $99 scope on a 1000 yard rifle, right?
Superior, Champion (depending on the line), Ft. Knox, Browning, all make safes that are in my opinion a clear step up over Canon, liberty and other big box brand names. They are heavier but they are also more expensive and having something is better than nothing so I guess my final suggestion is to save up a little more and I think you will get a lot more protection but if $1000 is as much as you can afford then buy the heaviest safe you can find in that price range. Also my advice is only relevant if you are looking for a more than basic theft and fire protection security container. If you want to keep a random burglar out then I have no doubt that the Canon safe will be fine.

Can't agree more it's for the burglier that wants to be in and out in 3-5 min..

A cheaper quality safe would Be a sturdy safe. But it's down side is its not eye candy, and bear bone.. But it'll do the job.

I just got a 24gun cannon from Academy sports. It was 599 but it was in stock and for my first safe I like it.

I work at academy and I own the 64 cannon myself. We use two huge cannons to keep our firearms in at night also. They're very nice for the money. I'd rather have a cannon than pay done for a browning.

Cannon I makes a great safe for the money, it comes with 2 power outlets, USB, and Ethernet cables in it. It also comes standard with a door panel kit.
