Ammo costs and availability aside, don't forget the .357 sig round. It gets good reviews. Like others have said, stick with a platform you are know well. Pick up a used Glock in .45 if you want to pack a wallop.

1911... Don't leave home without it. Ruger sp 101 snubnose also a good choice. Stoked with .357 federal hydroshock ammo, stainless so it won't rust, very concealable, easy to shoot too. Only 5 rounds in the cylinder though but hey... I don't plan on gettin' into a gunfight "wit a bunch a homies". More often than not, a thug encountering an educated and armed citizen brandishing a firearm is enough to chase 'em away. It has happened to me.

The P3AT and the PF9 both have long trigger pulls as do most of the mouse guns. Most of them are not pleasant to shoot so practice suffers. The Colt Mustang and Sig P238 (380) are SA set up like a 1911. Very nice to shoot and definitely not cheap. The PF9 is a small 9 in the same category as the LC9 or the Kahr small 9's. Long trigger pulls very dissimilar to the Glock and more like a DAO revolver. Ruger SR9c is very similar to the Glock but with a smaller grip and a manual safety. It comes with a 10 and 17 rnd mag if legal in your state. My wife and I each have one. Since you have a G17 I thought the G26 would be a good option. I really like my G36 but my hands are not large and it is only Glock that feels good to me.
If you are serious about a revolver, I have an SP101 DAO with a trigger job and laser. I carry it when hiking in the boonies because I can load 1 rnd for snakes and the rest for critters. I have seen a mountain lion and they are unpredictable. Feral pigs also. I sometimes carry it for ccw because at times it seems to hide better.
I like to carry cross draw if I am driving or I keep a 2nd gun in a handy place. It is difficult to draw from a strong side holster in a car.

Doing some web shopping I found this revolver

Gander Mountain® > European American Armory Windicator Handgun - Firearms > Handguns > Double Action Revolvers :

$350 for a 357 not bad looking deal. I don't know about the brand name anyone know much about it?

If I was you, I'd stick with "name brand". I've had to work on them before and wasn't impressed with them.

I talked to some buddies about what to carry and both came up with the same thing, they don't know each other so both coming to the same point got me thinking.

I don't want to get into a fire fight with my pistol so I shouldn't need 20+ rounds.

380 I will have a lower cost, smaller pistol so I can conceal better, and light weight. Now it is a smaller round and I wanted to go bigger but I am starting to rethink that.

Did find a Taurus 380 with 3 mags for $300. It's used but I know the got and it has less than 100 rounds thru it.

Not to hit on Taurus, but their firearms are usually a hit or miss. You might want to take a look at Ruger's SR9c, LCP, and LC9. All of them are reasonably priced and are very easy to conceal in my opinion. If you still want the 10 plus capacity then I strongly suggest the SR9c. It may have almost the same length and thickness in the slide as a Glock 26, but it's grip is much slimmer. Another positive is the adjustable rear sights.

Rock island 3" 1911 will be under 500 and you can (as money permits) customize.

The S&W Bodyguard can be had for under $400 with a laser. I like my Sig P238 even though it cost considerably more. The P3AT and LCP are not fun to shoot. The Sig is and easier to hold a group. I have not shot the Smith or the Taurus. I am running 50% with Taurus. 2 good 2 bad. I wont buy another.
