while it worked out for him he broke the cardinal rule of clearing the house himself. he admitted to not calling the cops until after the fact. he is damn lucky he didnt have to shoot as that lack of calling the police first could have gone very very poorly even for a military iraq vet.

I agree. I can understand him feeling like he was obligated to do it himself, but calling the police is what he should've done first.

Having been in his shoes, when someone calls you at work like that all you want to do is get home as soon as possible. Sometimes the nearest LEO in my area is 20-30 minutes away.
But yes he should have called the police on his way home or as soon as he got the call. Why did the person that called him not call the police. What it boils down to is, He was there we were not. Everyone makes different choices in situations like that. Now everyone can sit and talk about what he could or should have done. Just glad that it all worked out for him.

the lesson from this is always call the police first THEN take care of business. i wouldnt have waited for a cop to show up on their own good ime but i sure woulda called first on the way home. i know my neighbor woulda called 911.
in the military urban combat schooling your not taught to clear buildings alone. i went through extensive mout training as a mp. step one secure perimeter step two go in WITH FRIENDS
i know where the doors are in my home i would have assumed an exterior watch while waiting for the police covering front and back from one corner
what he did went counter to all military training i ever had.

The underlying point of his interview he was trying to make was without his state allowing CCW he would have not been able to protect his home, besides im sure after a 20 or 30 min drive home from work he didnt expect the BG to still be there and he may have wanted to look first as not to have the cops rush out there guns blazing for a empty house, givin he still would have had to make a police report. Im pretty sure most people would do the same thing in his shoes, im sure he didnt run from room to room yelling CLEAR, 1 MAN UP! STACK ON ME!
