Man, do you guys ever live in the wrong states.

Here in Florida, you can open carry whenever you

go camping, hunting or fishing.

(Partly because when you do, you are

re-entering the food chain...)

S&W model 29 or Ruger Redhawk in 44 magnum.

Access, speed, and accuracy are far more important than weight because it had better not be in your backpack if a cat or mad bear has decided you need a lesson. I do hunt and fish in the mountains and on the Gulf Coast with a.357 magnum with a 4" barrel and a speed loader. If semi-auto I would get a 10mm with a spare mag.

I don't need 10 bullets to stop a hostile take over by a despot either, but the Constitution I swore to protect and uphold said I can have as many as I want.

In a close quarter contact with a bear you are going to get hurt. You can pump a hand full of .44 Mags in to a "Grizz" and he is going to rearrange your body before he dies. I would never fear a coyote. The Mtn. Lion will kill you so fast only he will know where you fell.

We dont really have grizz here, maybe on occasion north of kettle falls. Cougs are rarely a threat.

For strength, durability, dependability you can't go wrong with a Ruger.

Ive become a fan of rifle rounds in pistol platforms so ive become quite found of the FN 5.7. 20-30 low recoil easily well placed shots and light as can be.
