I carry a handful of knives because there is one for every situation. My Gerber is a general cutting tool. If I need to use a knife in self defense, I will either reach for my TDI knife (it is designed specifically for self defense), or I will grab my SOG Trident from my non-dominant hand pocket. The TDI knife can be grabbed with either hand, which ever is more easily available, but the SOG is on the left so I can use it if my gun hand is otherwise indisposed.

S&W 642, and a Kershaw Leek. There's a Kahr CM9 waiting for me to pick up and that will become my primary.

My main carry is a Glock 30, now being replaced by the G30SF with night sights and a Lasermax laser sight; I am also playing with the following in no particular order but like the SW1911PD a lot....
1. Kimber Pro Carry II
2. Sig 1911 Compact with rail
3. Sig 1911 C3
4. Sig P239
5. Glock 26 (feel undergunned)
6. HK USP Compact
7. Smith & Wesson SW1911PD
8. Springfield XDM45
9. Walther P99 .45
10. HK P7M8
I want ten rounds on the two spare mags carried and would be happy with any of these given comfortable carry and good concealment under a variety of carrying circumstances.

Having said all of this, I am playing the 1911 and striker fired merry go round as I am unsettled carrying a Glock with one in the chamber (half cocked) without a safety of any substance. On the flip side, they are ultra reliable and accurate enough for self defense (my Sigs shoot rings around the Glocks.... incredibly so).

The HK P7M8 is a squeeze cocker and takes a bit of getting used to but I have absolutely no hesitation in carrying that gun tucked into a pocket or down the front of my pants; it is ultra safe but only a 9mm and I am set on .45ACP after having read the FBI reports and the LA Coroners comments to the effect that he worked on an awful lot more corpses hit by .45's than by the smaller calibers.

Travelling back and forth to Canada I need to maintain a 4.2" barrel and ten round mag as all else is evil.

I keep coming back to the Glock 30 but have just received the SW1911PD and can't wait to get it out to the range. The finish on the gun is outstanding and the frame is Scandium.

Comments on any of these guns would be appreciated in the context of concealed carry (not only in colder weather but also in red hot weather).

If you want to carry a knife for picking your teeth or opening the mail, do so. But to bring a knife to a gunfight is sheer folley. Having said that, please remember the bad guy can slit your throat from ear to ear from 21 feet before you can get your first accurate shot away. Just having a gun or a knife is pointless unless you are acutely aware of your surroundings and act accordingly.

Aaah, the 21 feet rule... Tht is correct and knives in the hands of ur enemies should NEVER b underestimated. Ive never heard anyone outside of being CLEET certified knowing about the 21 feet rule. Sounds like u may be a brother in blue

I carry a full size 1911 concealed. In good leather, it is carried comfortably, and I ain't no giant either. If I ever, God forbid, need a gun, I will have enough gun.

If I have my pants on, I have a high quality, razor sharp knife in my pocket. Currently it is a Ken Onion designed Kershaw. That, my friend is a tool, not a weapon.

You aren't worried about leaving the gun in your car?
