If you would prefer HPs, I've seen successful tests of (3) brands out of a Bersa Thunder (3-1/2" barrel).
Corbon DPX (Barnes solid copper bullet)
Buffalo Bore DPX (same Barnes bullet)
Winchester DPX1 Bonded
As you said, several well respected HPs failed to expand from the same pistol.
