Is a Walther P99, a good replacement for my 1911 EDC carry?
Hi, I presently carry a 1911 .45 but it is a little too bulky, I'm looking for something durable, cost effective and above all, reliable. I have looked at (glanced at through the glass) the Walther P99 and a few others, but find myself stuck, are they worth buying? If you have suggestions on any other smaller than a 1911 sized handgun, chambered in no less than 9mm, let me know, thanks.

The P99 is a great, reliable gun. I have the AS model - I really like the trigger and I am very accurate with it. However, it is not what I would call a small gun. Maybe a P99c would be better for carry.

What makes the 1911 too bulky for you?

I'm not a small guy and with the length ot the pistol, I can't really conceal it without wearing very baggy clothing. I guess the real answer is to hit the treadmill lol, I realize that compact 1911s are readily available but the first one drained my wallet, love the gun though.

I have several handguns I use for carry. Depends on what I have planned and what I am wearing. Having one gun only for carry is like having only one pair of shoes. Okay for most of the time, inappropriate other times.

Nothing wrong with any Walther ! I know a guy who packs a P-38, always loved that gun and probably is still my favorite Walther. They are known for quality and German made ! The Germans always made good firearms.

I love my Colt Defender in 40 S&W and CT laser grip. Thin single stack with ample power.

I agree with the post about having several carry guns. I have a S&W 36 lightweight shrouded hammer, also with a CT laser and a Glock 36.

Defender is primary, .38 S&W is secondary with an ankle holster, glock just kicks ass.
