My Eldest son bought me the S&W pen for Christmas last year. I saw them as a novelty and would have never bought one for myself but I must say that after carrying it in my shirt pocket for a year now, that it's actually a great idea.

The pointed end of ^^THIS^^ thing to anyones skull is going to take the fight ought of them pretty quick.

...and, now that it's part of my EDC ensemble, I'm never without a good pen!

Tack

I decided against the attachments ... too hard to fit in a pocket protector

The tactical pen gives the business traveler an option that he would otherwise lack.
I fly a couple times a year. I never have a problem checking my gun/s in. I always put two knives in my suitcase and never have a problem getting them checked in. My weapons always arrive when I do. I don't understand your difficulty. I can understand the Japanese not wanting a Yankee running around with a gun, but Topeka?

I recently (October) went on a cruise to the Maritime Provinces. Bringing my handgun was out of the question, and so was my usual backup; pepper spray is illegal in Canada too. I had brought a couple of decent knives, one an Emerson folding kerambit, but both were confiscated by the cruise line and returned to me at the end of the voyage.

All I had was my tactical pen, bought a few days before departure, and my "Travel Wrench," aka an "impact kerambit, neither of which were recognized as weapons by either TSA or the cruise-line authorities. Those, with my walking stick, gave me some sense of peace of mind. That week was the first time I'd gone without a pistol on my person in almost ten years.

Found out at IDPA match today that it's not a practical pen either. The thing doesn't write worth a damn.

It is said that the pen is mightier than the sword.

Some people live or work in places that are unfriendly to knives or guns. When it gets down and dirty, any weapon is better than no weapon.
