Default Soon to be retired LEO moving to Upstate NY from PA...AMMO QUESTION

Any other LEO's here that can tell me of any specific ammo restrictions for Off-duty/retired LEO's regarding ammo carried in handguns in NY? I know that New Jersey LE will arrest ANYONE caught carrying hollow points.

I'm retiring to a small town north of Utica and I don't need to make new enemies with the local p.d.

I love the Adirondacks but damn.......the NY firearm carry laws are insane!!

2 weeks ago I went into a Gander Mountain store in Utica just to take a peek at the new S&W "Governor". The friendly salesman told me that he couldn't even show me the gun unless I showed him my NY pistol permit. After showing him my Pennsylvania police ID, he decided that he could then show me the gun!! Whew......things here in PA are much more "gunshop friendly".

Then please pray tell me why in hell you’re moving to NY to retire???

Myself I would head as far south west as I could without getting to Komifornia.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

I think maybe that might be a Gander Mt. rule. I was allowed to handle several pistols at a gun show and at a small sporting goods store without a permit, but not at Gander Mt.

Why retire in the People's Republic of New York??

I have a home in the Adirondack Mtns that's paid for.....on 6 acres of wooded land about 500 ft from a lake. I hate the tax rate and gun laws in NY......but I can't turn down a mortgage free home!!

It's not the size of the dog in the fight.
