In AL there are no classes or requirements aslong as you are over 21 and not a convicted fellon go down to the sherrifs office fill out a form come back 2 days later and pay $20 and there you go i always suggest some form of firearms saftey class to anyone i meet considering getting a CCW but that is a completely voluntary step

It's not constitutional, the idea is that everyone grows up shooting, taught by their parents, that way they already know the basics (and advanced) gun safety & handling. This society has gone to where it has to be told what to do and not do instead of thinking for itself and making the right choice on its own.
I respectfully disagree.
That is similar to not getting drivers training and undergoing required knowledge and proficiency testing for a drivers license. Responsible Govt's must test for competency for a drivers license.

I never had to wait in Geneva co. Background check, take your picture, print it out.

South Carolina requires, background check, 8 hours of class, 50 question test that you must past with least a 72. On the shooting range, you must have a holster, you fire a total of 50 rounds. 35 have to be in the target.
You shoot from 5, 7, 10, and 15 yards. You have to wear a jacket or shirt that covers your holster, must kick back the shirt/jacket, draw and fire on command. you are timed.
If you fail any of the requirements, you have to attend another class till you get it right. or!! The one I attended is called Belt-line, they are on the net.

In Pennsylvania all you do is fill out a form at the local sheriffs office. With two references and they call them. A guy I use to work with does the calls at my local sheriffs office.

That means the other people out there that you are mixing up with have virtually no training.
It's something to think about.
It is a weak requirement state. Before the Feds made them more techno savvy not long ago, it was $17 in GA and it was no more than a laminated piece of paper with your thumbprint and a judges signature. Now it looks like a Drivers License and costs $68. The only thing about the GA permit is, it's not honored in states like SC where they require that for reciprocity, the rules for obtaining one must be equal to or greater than their laws. But you can get a FL out of state license and that, combined with the GA license, is then good in SC. Thing is, FL CCL cost a lot more and require a certificate from a handgun training course taught by a licensed instructor, or previous military service or POST certification.

I had meant to re-visit this post and ask you if you went yet. Good to hear that you enjoyed it and are now good to go.
