Everyone has there opinions and thoughts on the Serpa all together. I will just give you my .02
The Serpa is a very well designed holster to an extent. It provides positive retention as needed but if you grab on the firearm well enough while holstered the mechanism may fail. This doesn't occur all the time but sometimes is enough for me.
Also when you look at the Serpa you can see the slots or little groves made around the button to press. Just imagine for a second now you end up on your back or go through thick brush and a branch; pebble, or something gets in there. Now what? You cannot access your firearm and depending on the situation you're SOL on **** street. Only way to get it out may be to break the holster...
It is my understanding that the original design of the Serpa came from this product here I'm not a 100% positive on this but check it out:
This is also an outstanding product but suffers the same issues. If a rock or even some spare change fell in that whole now what?
This is just my .02 as far as the holster is concerned. Some people love it some hate it. It's all a matter of preference. I own one for my XD9 and haven't really used up until these past few weeks due to the cold weather in FL. I needed a good OWB holster and didn't have anything laying around but this.
In the end its on you.
