Congrats! You made a mighty fine choice. For practice ammo, buy the cheapest you can find. 9MM is around $10 a box for FMJ (
http://www.ammoforsale.com/). For self defense, buy two boxes (20 in a box) of good quality self defense ammo. I use Hornady Critical Defense. Don't get all caught up in this SD ammo selection. As long as it's recognized as a good self defense round, it will be fine. Shoot one box to function test it in your gun. Save the other box for carry and home defense and pray to God you never have to use even one round of it. The key is practice, practice, practice, then practice some more. Unless you reload, or are rich, that may be a problem. And not just target shooting, although that's the starting point. For muscle memory, shooting 100 rounds a week is better than shooting 400 rounds once a month. Think about reloading. I have a shooting range on my property so I recycle my lead for casting my own bullets. I can reload any pistol ammo for $2.00 a box as my only recurring costs are for primers and powder. I shoot a lot and I mean
A LOT ! I just cast 1500 38 caliber wad cutters and 2000 40 caliber 175 gr semi-wad cutters. You're really gonna enjoy that piece
! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Happy shooting and always be safe.
