Haven't been able to find a good reference. But believe it is 50 ft. from the center of any publicly maintained road. And pretty sure that is any hunting tackle, like even having a bolt in a crossbow. Coming from WI. I don't find AR. too punitive. We couldn't carry a rifle in the front of the truck unless it was in a closed case.

Did find this, guess it's a bone of contention. Notice that they mentioned AGFC can and will bust you for it. That is most of my concern.

I think the best choice for carry is dependant on your environment... the difference in urban carry and rural carry... one applies to open carry being normal and one applies to concealed carry being better...
