I did the open carry thing when I was in AZ this spring. In a way, I really prefer the CC. For the reasons most have already stated. But...it would be great to have a choice.

Race has nothing to do with any comment I've made. We were discussing the pro's and cons of open carry.

The "you people" is referring to anyone who believes that we should have to tip toe around those who are "alarmed" at the sight of a properly holstered weapon.

What is wrong with open carrying for desensitation and assimilation purposes. If people only see guns on tv from bad guys and cops, then they'll think they (cops and bad guys) are the only ones that should have it. Just like the gay/flame movement. I dont agree with it, but they made it more acceptable and tolerable by making public displays. Its called normalcy. I definately object to the notion that only military and cops should be the only ones to open carry in a populated urban environment. I dont think you should oc to make a statement by trying to "pick a fight" with cops either.

As far as the "average" robber/thief/criminal/thug going after the person open carrying, dont buy it all. If the average thief goes to the convenience store to rob and sees someone oc'ing they are going to turn around. If the average thief goes to the conveniece store to rob and sees a cop they are goiing to turn around. However, what you should be leary of is the dead set, dont care if they kill, hardened criminal. He is going to do whatever it takes, oc'er, cop, doesnt matter. He is going to die trying. The average criminal is going to try and stay away from potential danger to self.

If I was dead set on robbing a store with a cop and an oc'er both inside, Im shooting the cop in the face. Point blank, why? Not the gun, the radio. Sure, people can dial 911 on cell phones, but we both know cops will respond with a little more gusto if they think one of their brothers in blue is in trouble. If you're willing to commit murder to further a crime, it is not gonna matter if it is a civilian or a cop. Either way its life or the needle.

Im not saying oc'ing is better than cc. Both have pro/cons. Deterance, speed, climate (both extreme heat and extreme cold makes oc'ing friendlier). They both have pro/cons but EVERYBODY should be able to oc/cc/CC on their land or public land or in a rural setting or in a highly populated urban setting because they want to not because you think only cops and military should. They should be able to choose by themselves, based on their own experiences & philosophies on whether to carry openly or concealed.

Fight for the Second Amendment, all of it, not just the part that fits your lifestyle or what you view it should be.

Starlight had the best fish & chips in Flint, but Angelo's was my coney destination. And Luigi's on Davison Road for pizza.

We spent 10 days up there...had a good time.

Okay, I did an open carry one particular time I remember. I was travelling on the interstate late one night when I had to pee and stopped at a rest stop out in the middle of nowhere. It was very dark at that place. I got out of the car and started toward the restroom. As I approached the building I noticed two, shall we say, rugged-looking individuals just standing there in the dark staring at me. I stopped and turned around and went back to my car and got my .357 and stuck it in my front pants pocket in plain view. When I went back to the restroom the gun in my pocket got the attention of the guys waiting there. After I finished my business and left I noticed that those guys were no longer waiting outside. My wife said they got in their car and left. I trust my gut feeling and I had the feeling those two were up to no good.

Luigi's does have some great pizza. I just might get a take out soon.

Living in NH we have the choice to open or conceal. Depending on the situation is what makes me decide what I'm doing at the time. I know while I was carrying open with 2 of my friends who were also openly carrying we stopped a robbery at a mini mart this past summer. I'm sure the 3 guys that walked in with sidearms mounted on their hips (us) is what made this dirt ball change his mind. I really don't think it was the badge on my belt that deterred him, I truly believe it was the XD40 riding right next to it.
