in market
I'm in the market for a CCW. I own a HK USP45 (a little large but for a bedside gun i can handle it) and S&W m&p9 (perfect fit). Both full size. I had shot SigP226, Beretta M9, Glocks 23/21/27, CZ75b, Springfields XDm, XDs45 (the xds kind of started to hurt after two boxes of ammo because the rough grip but I liked it but didn't shoot too well with it) & the TRP 1911. That's the only 1911 I've shot. I like it but its a little thick in the grips, at least with the wood grips that were on it.
I live in Illinois and with CC coming I want to get a nice small firearm to carry. I prefer a 45 but am open to others not .40 though. I want something that I can TRUST with my life. And something that's not a pain to carry. I keep going back to the glock 36 but I have to see how I shoot with it first. I'm kind of scared to carry a 1911 cocked n locked. Because if I flinch and shoot I will be screwed. Plus I'm not too familiar with 1911's. Any ideas for me out there. Like a list of very reliable small comfortable guns to try out. Thanks guys. |
The M&P Shield in 9mm would be a good one to look at.

I like the m&p series but are they really super reliable for carry.
I have had a fail to eject on my mp9 before but I think that was ammo related. |

Reason number 3 tells me you don't want a Glock, either. You need something with a nice long trigger pull. Maybe a Sig DAO? |

The m&p compact makes sense. You've already got a service size. You're familiar with the platform. They're good guns.

Anywho, I have been carrying Browning design pistols for years, and I can see your concern about cocked and locked. It doesn't scare me out of owning them, but my holsters all have thumb-breaks with the strap under the hammer. I've never had a hammer fall while holstered, but it still makes me feel better about it. |
Living in Illinois, I would wait to see what the idiots in Springfield do. Your only option may wind up being a revolver.

If u can handle it the ruger LC9 is a great carry gun. Long trigger pull but its smooth. After about 50 rounds I was able to anticipate it ans find the break point. I'd show my groupings at 10 yards. (Excessive I know) but my app crashes when I try to upload photos.
