Then there were the State fees on top of that of about $117 including fingerprints. All in all I paid about $175-ish.
Gun safty wasnt really talked about that much as is assumed that if you are getting a carry permit you already know the basics. The whole class was gun laws. Im kinda glad it was that long. I almost wish it was a two day class. It was a very good class but it was a lot of info for one day. Anyone in the Lubbock, TX area I highly recomend Patriot firearms and family shooting center. The staff is very helpfull and they know guns and gun laws like the back of there hands.

umm, for Iowa Non-professional Permit to Carry Weapons, (CCW).

No class is required if you have a DD214 to show them.

No shooting of Any Kind is required.

No fingerprints required.

The state has a max of 30 days to either issue the permit or deny it.

A 5 yr. permit is $50.00 plus $5.00 if you want the plastic photo ID card.

Now that we are a "SHALL ISSUE" state, things are look'in up!

That is what really surprised me. Not having to wait up to 30 days for the permit to be issued. I paid $75.00 for the class, $ 20.00 for 3 sets of fingerprint cards for a Utah and Arizona permit which have been filled out and sent in, which were $60.00 and $65.00 and $55.00 to the local sheriff. This will pick up most of the states I travel to or through on a somewhat regular basis.

A friend paid me last night for some website work that I have been doing for him. I know some of you may have purchased knives from him, Randy Porter in Wahoo Nebraska. Randy is the one who told me about this great forum, and I have 6 of his knives also. So I get to go to the local gun store today and pick out a Christmas present for me! The wife told me yesterday that once I decide on which gun, to let her know and she will order the holster I want to go with it. The really good news is, she is thinking she will go take the class and get her permit in January.

Thats one lucky man right there folks!!

woody, this is how it's covered in Iowa law, no school required if you have any of the following;

◦d . Completion of small arms training while serving with the armed forces of the United States as evidenced by any of the following: ◦(1) For personnel released or retired from active duty, possession of an honorable discharge or general discharge under honorable conditions.
◦(2) For personnel on active duty or serving in one of the national guard or reserve components of the armed forces of the United States, possession of a certificate of completion of basic training with a service record of successful completion of small arms training and qualification.
