I find purses and bags in my restaurant almost weekly. Senior citizens are great at leaving things behind. Even canes. If you need a cane to walk how in the world did you leave it hanging on the back of your chair?

Before I pick up a purse or whatever I find, I always ask in a loud voice, does this belong to anyone? Then I very deliberately pick it up and let everyone see me carry it over to the front desk.

If someone quietly grabs a purse without saying anything to anybody, they are probably up to no good. But I will say this...I am not going to shoot someone over a $500 laptop. If someone stole my property I would say, "Hey, that is mine". If they ran with it, I would pay close attention to what they look like. I would give a good description to the police. I will feel bad enough if I ever have to shoot someone in a real life or death situation.
