I wouldn't recommend it. I have personally seen a 9mm will penetrate a person a bed a floor and end up in the wall below. I picked up a .25 after that. You should consider rock salt or bird shot unless you plan on possibly killing your neighbor

Another option if you have the money. The governor shoots .410 shot or just about any version of .45 for that matter. Six shots of .410 buck in a nice compact package is hard to beat for home defense.

I've never recovered a slug from a deer(12ga.), even when shooting a large bodied buck in the front chest and giving him dual exhaust.

Josh,

"Excessive Penetration!" If you want to do some tests! make you about four square 2X4 frames about 2 ft. square. Find some old drywall from a contractor or dump and tac it onto both sides of the frames. Then get two 8 ft. 2x4s and attach the frames spaced out about two feet apart by nailing the 2x4s across the top of the frames just to hold them together for the test. And stand about 10-15 ft from the first frame (which would represent the average distance of confrontation in a home) and fire the slug through them. I think you will be amazed at the penetration you get. I would certainly recomend smaller projectiles in a home if you have anyone living there other than you and or your wife. You might want to think about for example #2 Shot Mag Loads. First of all at close range the #2 Shot will not even leave the wad. If you would shoot one at a paper target at 3-5 yards for example you will probably have one large hole in the target as the wad with the shot in it will be together and go through the paper. It will look like a slug hole! Only some thoughts! But upon impact with barrier material the #2 shot will start loosing momentum! Therefore less penetration through additional walls and material. But still plenty enough to bring an aggressor down with no doubt with a good shot! Only some thoughts!

mountain man13. rock slat??? You should not be looking to piss of or wound anyone that does not belong in your home. And light weight low brass bird shot can be just about as wrong. You should want to kill them. No playin around. Just asume they my be on angle dust or all methheaded up and not thinking about the pain.

Depending on your home constrution type, distance to your neighbors home and the slug your useing a full bore slug could very easily end up in your neighbors home some where half way across it.

A shoot over looked is the very heavy tungsten shots used for duck, turkey, coyote with shot size for #5 to BB which is .18 cal and T which is a .20 cal with weight from 1 1/2 to 2 3/8oz. This shot could be a better choice for a BG when neighbors and other family member are a concern.

It is very possible to miss a BG in a hall way of a house with out aiming a shotgun so practice is a most. No point and shooting from the hip at inside house distance.

The 55gr fmj .223 is better than many pistol rounds in a house as the bullets tend to key hole and come apart at the high velocitys when hitting drywall.

Only problem with .223 in a house is everyone will be deaf for a week. But better deaf than dead
