I think I'd look at:

A semi-auto 12ga. Maybe a CZ 712, which can be had for $500 or less.

A big-boy 357mag...long enough barrel to get everything the caliber offers. Ruger GP100?

Also can't go wrong with a metal hi-cap 9mm (Sig P226, CZ 75, BHP), XDm45, or almost any 5.56 or ultra-common .30-cal rifle (AK, 308, 30/06) in whatever configuration suits your preferences.

Well, that narrowed it down, Sweeper, thanks!

I must admit that a well-rounded collection should eventually contain a semi-auto 12-gauge, a Browning High Power, and a 6" .357mag. I will definitely get there someday.

Go with a saiga 12, on that website you can get them for under $600 and thats a deal.

Default Conclusion

Hello, all!

I just got back from the gun shop with a brand new Kahr CM9, the smallest 9mm Kahr they've got. I chose to go with this choice over the other three because I felt a greater NEED for a small, thin 9mm in my carry rotation. The shotgun, 45acp, and AR-15 aren't quite as useful. I'll buy those next year. This year was the year of *AMMO*AMMO*AMMO*!!

My second reason was that it was the 9mm that my wife liked the most. She only has a S&W 642, which is still pretty big and I'm trying to get her to carry more often. She isn't as deeply interested in guns as I am so she just doesn't think about carrying. I wanted her to have another option.

I'll be buying Pearce magazine extensions for her dangling pinkie. It doesn't bother me, but she likes the extra grip length.

Thanks everyone for your help and opinions!!

I don't know about that for me. Three reasons:

1) $389 + $10 OR state fee = $399 That's hard to beat!!

2) After shipping and FFL transfer fee, I can't see the net price beating ^^^

3) I ALWAYS prefer to support the local gun shops.
