I tested some ammo last year. When I get home this afternoon I'll try and find some pics of my results. I still have the expanded bullets!

I remember the winchester rangers having great penetration and the most expansion overall. Some were close to 1inch in diameter!

JPyle, a man of his word *mad respect*, came through and sent me the stuff.

I have 5 of each:

Hornday CD .45 ACP 185gr

Hornady CD .40 S&W 135gr

Federal (silver box) .40 S&W 135gr

I am impressed with the look of the CD. They come to a sharper point than the Federals, have the NiCad cases and the poly tip that begs for a cross scribe.

Weather permitting, I will be conducting the test this weekend, most likely Sunday. The thinking is that I will have time to get more papers and put them to soak on Saturday.

Stay tuned...

I did some testing on 45 and 38 ammo a while back, I can dig the results up if anyone is interested.

Skully, I'm looking forward to your test results.

I'd not seen the newspaper test before. This gives me a good reason to save the WSJ at work instead of chucking it in the trash. My last trip to Bass Pro, I picked up a box of CD in .38 spl, but they were out of .45's.

The .45's are on low supply at Bass Pro here too.
