I also don't keep a long gun in my truck because I'm paranoid about having it stolen while I'm not in my truck. I got a CCW so I wouldn't have to leave my gun in my truck.
My ben. with 3.5 mag. 00 buck takes care of those that decide to raid my truck..... I'm never more than shooting distance from either......And I will shoot to KILLLLLLLLLLL.........Shoot first then answer thier stupid questions.....
For ever Vigilant..... One Shot One Kill.........
Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you.
My wife and I are on the road in our RV for the summer. This is the 1st chance I have had to post in a couple of weeks. I have my 12 gauge next to the bed, My AR under the bed, his and hers SR9c's in the night stands, an SP101 by the door and my P3AT in my pocket.

I was taught to respect my elders but they are getting harder to find.
I drive a hundred miles round trip to and from work, so what I have in the truck is what I have until someone shows up. Most LEO's are at least 45 minutes away. As you all know most firefights take place in a couple of minutes. The last thing I want to do is run out of ammo.
There is one other thing that everyone else had not mentioned is if they also carry a 1st aid kit. I carry a small trauma bag in my truck, you can never be to careful.
