Finally took my CWP class!

I just did my CWP class last weekend at Allen Arms in Greenville, SC. I can't say enough great things about the instructor (Mike Sexton) and the awesome staff of Allen Arms. Mike is a retired Marine Warrant Officer and master-rated IDPA competitor who is incredibly knowledgeable and just a lot of fun to be around. Now I am trying to find time in my schedule to attend his Level II class to continue to gain more real hands-on shooting experience. If you are in the upstate SC area and need a great range/gun shop, Allen Arms is the place to go.
Unfortunately, I have to wait 90 days for my application, then send off for a New Hampshire out-of-state permit so that I am covered here in GA, where I'm stationed.

Sounds good! What does their level 2 training involve?

Please allow me to quote from AllenArms.net :
"This is the advanced training everyone has been wanting, taking you beyond the basic marksmanship training in prior courses to prepare the shooter to use proven techniques for close, quick shooting in life-or-death situations. These are not bullseye, paper punching techniques, as important as they are. Instead, it involves learning to respond to a danger by deploying and using a handgun from short to contact distance, including using weapons presentation, movement, reloading, and retention shooting. Analysis and reaction to threat will be covered as well as shooting technique. These techniques are also very helpful for those desiring to begin any of the action shooting sports such as IDPA, but the goal is to instill self defense skills."

It is a 3 hr. class and Mike says there is about 20 minutes of classroom and the rest is on the range. The classes are limited to 6 people too, so the teacher/student ratio is great.

Sounds like a good class.

Wish I was closer.

If you are active duty and stationed in GA - you do not need a permit to carry here in the state....

I had heard this but haven't looked into it. Very interesting info.
As always, thanks NGIB!
