What should you do if confronted with a gunman:

When I went through the police academy in 2006 we were already being trained in active shooter scenarios/response. They teach us that upon entering a building where a known active shooter is to have "tunnel vision". We focus solely on engaging the threat and eliminating that threat. We pay no attention to the victims or bystanders until we know the threat eliminated. Those training exercises are a lot of fun and way better than any paintball game.

Police training and CC training are different.
The CC should be taught that they are not law enforcement and should not try to take actions expected of LEO.

Could not agree more Dan! Having been on all sides( except that of the bad guy), the training we get now as Aux State LE's is much different then the CC class and the basic "Combat Shooting" class I took here, compared to what I was taught in the service, and when I took the test(written) for P.I. Back east.

Had a discussion about this with my HOA president( he's also a local PD Sgt.) who has been a cop for close to 30 years. He's had some tactical training as part of a SWAT team back east. Here with less folks to respond to threats, he has to, like must rural LE's carry ( in his Dodge Charger) a semi-auto 12Ga. An AR( S&W M&P 15) and a LR Bolt gun in 30Cal. (308). He also carries 3 extra spare mags for his M&P 40 besides the two on his belt, and a Charter Arms .38 as a BUG...

He might switch to a SIG since they are going back to 9MM as the issue Caliber,.

yeah, ccw training should be MUCH more thorough, intense and frequent than cop training, for a fact. Cause civilans don't get the breaks from prosecutors, judges, lawsuits, juries, etc, that cops get

How many times have you heard of an officer involved shootings that did not have investigations afterwards?
