I bet all those people in the theater felt there was no threat. What is the first words out of the mouths of people involved in any type of disaster? "I never thought that would happen to me." The key words to remember in that statement is "I never thought".

I don't think any of us have a crystal ball which tells us when we'll need to be armed & when we won't. At one time, consensus was that crime was confined to the big cities, to certain areas & after dark, etc. But not any more. It happens in broad daylight & even in the 'one stop sign' small towns.

However, I agree with Cane that each person must determine what they are comfortable with when it comes to carrying in public. I live in a rural area & started carrying around my home, doing yard work, etc. before I received my CHL. Then when it came I was more or less used to carrying & doing so in public didn't really feel unusual, although I did make extra effort to dress in such a way as to insure I didn't expose it.

Several different opinions and several valid points too.

As Cane stated if carrying makes you uncomfortable...don't do it

If you are comfortable carrying then.....do it

It comes down to your right to carry or not to carry...that is the question

As for me and my family we be packin...good luck on your decision, as it is one only you can make.

Once you start carrying, you'll feel real uncomfortable when you don't or can't carry.

This is true! I stopped by the Kroger across the street from my house, realizing I was without my gun. Very bad feeling.

I went to the trouble to go through a class. I spent my hard earned money on a permit application. I practice a lot. I did not do all this to become someones victim while my gun sits in the safe.

Ending a human life is about the most horrible thing any of us could be forced to do...

Relying on others for our safety is about the most irresponsible thing any of us could choose to do...

I carry because I am prepared to do the first and would not consider the second....EVERYDAY

When I first got my CWP, It felt strange carrying a gun, especially to the bank and grocery store. But, after a while, its like putting on a wrist watch. Just comes natural now. I hope I never have to use it, BUT, if I need it, I will be glad I have it with me.

The closes I have gotten was when two punks came up to me on the street and ask me for change. I said I did not have any, they started in on me with chatter, wacthing thier hands, I took two steps back and told them, "I repeat, I don't any change to give you". I think they read the look on my face and walked off. I had already taken into view that the area behind them was clear and safe to shoot. It was going through my mind the position of my gun and drawing. I was glad they walked off.
