I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

My man, I knew you'd come through for us. Your gonna have to teach me how one day.

Thanks for the sentiment dragunov, I was just glad to be home that last time around. Never want to go anywhere else again.

I think you made all the right moves IMO, you tried to get out of the situation and the kid was between you and your exit route. Its hard to say without being in that situation but if faced with that decision, someones going home and like the old saying goes " don't bring a knife to a gun fight"
Here in Maine we just had an incident with a 14yo arsonist who was shot by a homeowner. Without getting into great detail there have been a string of house fires set in the area of this incident over the last 8 or 10 months. This is gone over in detail in ccw classes and they say you have every right to shoot someone who is commiting arson. This man did, it was at night and I don't know if he knew of the suspects age or not but the boy did get shot.
here is a link to the story

Hahaha
This would be a great situation for one of those civiliana taser units; tase the kid, snap a picture of his knife whilst he twitches, and ask his mother which prison she is grooming him for while you wait for the police.[/QUOTE]

Then she attacks you for hurting her baby, and your taser is one shot. Then what, camera phone in one hand and taser in the other?

It wasn't meant to be funny. Lots of these brats that always get their way, and flip out when they DON'T get their way, have their mother there to help. The situation could easily develop like this.

I totally understand the situation as I have two kids of my own.... I haven't gotten this reply thing down yet... So it look as if I was just making fun of the whole situation...

Interesting thread.
One thing I'd like to add (just food for thought) is the "21 foot rule" related to encounters with an edged weapon (Tueller)
