I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

My (now) wife used to get that line as well. If they were in a public place she asked them to whip it out in front of everyone to prove what they were claiming. It cut down on the claims considerably.

This Quote Says It All For Me!
On a couple of rare occassions I have broken out this quote in defense of myself when verbally attacked by non-gun owners. It seems to work to defuse their anger. I think many people have never met a bad person and rarely consider how to react in a violent confrontation. Since my wife and I are approaching our 86th wedding anniversary I'm not sure about the current dating scene, but I think this quote would be equally useful. By the way, that eighty six years break down as 43 years for my wife and 43 years for me. of course, my 43 years are measured in dog years.
[B]"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work. Wear a gun to someone else's house, you're saying, 'I'll defend this home as if it were my own.' When your guests see you carry a weapon, you're telling them, 'I'll defend you as if you were my own family.' And anyone who objects levels the deadliest insult possible: 'I don't trust you unless you're rendered harmless'!" -- L. Neil Smith, http://www.jpfo.org/

As a woman with a CCP, I obviously wouldn't mind dating a guy with one. And if someone is dead set against guns and you carry, why waste your time? However, I haven't always been a gun owner, so here is one thing to consider: If you are going out on a date with a woman for the first time (for example, someone you met online), I think it would be a good idea to be open about your gun enthusiasm and CCP early on. Maybe even before you meet. The woman may be a little nervous already a) because she is going on a date and b) because she is meeting someone she met online. I know a couple of women personally who have met men online who were not who they claimed to be in person. It is normal and smart for anyone to be cautious and aware in this sort of first date situation. If she is not used to guns on top of being nervous/cautious to begin with, she could end up being startled or frightened when a little heads-up in advance could have prevented this.
