Default Concealed Carry in Fl Heat?

I'm about to take my concealed carry class and looking on advice for a carry weapon. I've narrowed the caliber down to 45acp. Of the 45's I shot, I liked the XD45 Compact the best. But I'm worried about its conceal-ability in the Florida weather. I'm about 5'10" and 170ish lbs athletic build and rarely wear any kind of heavy clothing except for those unusually cold days in January. Mostly just a Guy Harvey or a Polo and cargo shorts.

So I'm looking for advice on a weapon that will be concealable for me. I plan on using the Supertuck IWB holster and I'll probably end up getting one of their belts as well.

Sorry if there's another topic like this. I searched and didn't come up with much, but then again, I kinda suck at searching and end up being too specific haha.

XD's are bulky and hard to conceal. The best way to conceal is the supertuck or Theisholsters.com | Home | Custom IWB Holsters are some excellent choices.

In a .45, you'd need a single stack to conceal the easiest. A 1911 would be great.
Get a back up gun too. Make sure you get something that you aill ALWAYS carry. A .380 in your pocket is better than the nice xd45c at home.

While I lived in FL my favorite concealed carry rig was a Walther PPS in 9mm in a pocket holster in my cargo shorts. I also carried either my Wilson Combat CQB in a Galco Avenger holster with slightly over-sized button shirts and occasionally my HKP2000 in a Maxpedition Octa waist pack with just a T-shirt over it.

Here's the PPS:

Here is the Wilson:

I agree with Goju on this one. The 1911 is great for carry IWB, but summer in Florida is an issue.

I would go with something like this

I find carrying my S&W 457 45ACP can be a bit bulky
in hot sweltering weather. So I carry another for hot
days, my Ruger LCP 380. In my pocket or attached to
tee-shirt.

rmzsuzuki89,

I also live in Florida. Right now, I carry an XDM 4.5 (9mm) in a SuperTuck with an untucked polo shirt, and it just disappears. I used to carry a Glock 30 (.45) OWB with an untucked button-down shirt. That worked fine, too. When I'm dressing up a bit, I carry a Glock 27 in my front pocket.

I am a bit bigger than you are, but the first two options would work for someone your size. If you want to wear a T-shirt, you might just need a single-stack to stay with .45, or a smaller caliber to stay with a double-stack.

A 1911 is actually at the top of my list of guns to shoot. Once I get to put a fair amount of rounds through one I'll decide if it's something to consider. From what I hear it definitely is.

I'd really like to get my hands on an XD in 9mm to compare it to the XD45.

Any shirt I wear tends to be pretty loose around the waste for me. Any shirt that I wear is always a medium, be it a Guy Harvey, Polo, or just a plain t-shirt. And all my pants are between 29" and 32" waist. The 32" actually falls off me without a belt, so I'm not too sure why I have them haha.

Welcome to the FTF!
I carry different ways. IWB, shoulder rig, OWB under a polo shirt, pocket, ankle.

Limiting yourself to 1 mode of carry is like limiting yourself to 1 pair of shoes, and loafers are not useful on the beach.

I have several firearms that I use for CCW. And I practice with each.

I dont recommend a person new to ccw to carry several different guns in several different ways mainly because ur carry weapon and home defense weapon u should shoot the best with. Also drawing should feel natural and takes practice to get it that way. If u start off with several u probably won't have the time to be excellent at 1 (very important when u or family life is on the line).
Where u carry is also important. Where do u carry?
I from miami but now live in tallahassee. Its hot in florida and I am a heavy set guy. I carry at 12:30 and no never knows I carry and it is comfortable to me. I carry a sw model 10 4 in barrel. That weapon is not small and I often sometimes carry in athletic shorts (basketball shorts). So find a weapon you love and then a set up you love and then master it then add more options.

"Having the burden and responsibility of carrying a firearm is well worth my family and love ones safety. I practice for them, and a well trained and prepared man with his love ones on his mind is the most dangerous man." - JJ

Keep the 32" pants if you're going to carry IWB. That'll add an inch or two to your waistline.
