This was my entire point during the zimmerman escapades in florida. He went above and beyound to insert himself in someone elses business yet was lauded a "hero" when he used his firearm to extricate himself from a situation he alone created...

In general an armed society is a polite one but when you have a manchild going armed and acting like a douche your going to have incidents. When it occurs the rest of us can't treat such behaviour as heroic.

Permit to rephase myself:

Do SOME people become more mature because one is now carrying a gun?
Or do SOME people decide to carry a gun because they've become more mature?

Thank you.

I'm new to carrying.

I knew before I started carrying I had accepted the responsibility that goes with CC and at the same time decided to completely stop drinking (didn't drink much but beer, almost never hard liquor). It was easy to give it up. I love Dos Equis with Mexican food but I just won't do it again.

I enjoy Sports Bars...the crowd (to an extent), lights, music, glass, mirrors and watching people but I can still enjoy but without alcohol.

Shift of topic: What do you think the anti's would say if they read a thread like this? Think they would believe us?

I'm with Jon about the TM GZ case. I still have lots of questions but they will never be answered.

There are several of us on the forum that resemble that remark. Some day you may be a senior. I made it because I was carrying when I was younger. I too live in a snowbird haven and I do know what you mean but it is common courtesy to make allowances for people that just cant move or think that fast anymore or have not figured out the difference between mph and kph.

Famous quote from one of Robert Heinlein's works- "An armed society is a polite society."

You SHOULD feel that you have a duty to hold YOURSELF to a higher standard of behavior than others.

Years back, grandmunchkin had a friend staying over- I was taking them out to eat. Little 7 yr old noted my carry as I was putting on my jacket. She asked the grandmunchkin "Why does your Grampa wear a gun?" Grandmunchkin looked at her, rolled eyes the way only a young girl can, said "Silly! 'Cause he is the grownup."

Yep. When I read your post, I could tell you were talking about Florida before I even looked at your avatar and info.
Florida has been invaded by a bunch of old geezers from the north, who have moolah, and used to be bigshots before they retired to Florida. A bunxh of aholes.

When I was young (yes, I really was young once), I was involved in 4 oriental martial arts. I learned to be polite, and to avoid trouble if possible. Then I joined the Marine Corps, became an officer, but NOT a gentleman. I was pretty "salty", and was indeed "first to fight". After I did my service, I bought some guns, and got my first carry permit in 1968. I also resumed participation in the martial arts. Both the CWP and the martial arts quickly calmed me down, and I re-learned the need to "speak softly but carry a big stick". It is far better to treat other people with respect, and to keep a low profile. That way, if the S ever does HTF, there will be no question of whether you started the confrontation or not.

the first class i sat through to get my cc permit this was a big conversation, because the instructor did not have a cc permit himself and explained that he knew his head was not cool enough and that we all should reflect on our own personalities and how we feel we would actually behave while carrying.
it indeed has had an enormous affect on my behaiver.

Yeah, see, these people are WAY BEYOND that "poor little old lady"

crap. They are intentionally rude, and use the "senior citizen

compassion" dodge as a bully-bat to get away with acting like

swaggering poltroons in public. I feel like a prisoner in my home on

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and when the Eagle Flies, because the

sea of arrogant humanity, being intentionally selfishly rude, would

test Jesus's most tolerant saints; I intentionally stay home as much

as possible, during those periods. Because the sad fact abounds, here,

that these people enjoy acting this way.
