Metals clips are known to tear up belts. That being said, I haven't really had any issues with my metal clips. Kydex seems to be the consensus on clips; durable and they won't ruin a nice belt.

I have kydex clips on my de santis intruder. I prefer them to metal. Kydex doesnt bend and it can accommodate a mass of belt/ pant combinations.
