Default ccw in Oklahoma

My buddy and I were coming back from the Tulsa gun show in Oklahoma and stopped to pay the final toll before going into Texas. We had a tail light out and did not know it and was stopped.
When the officer got to the car my buddy handed him his license and was taking out his chl to hand it to him. The officer asked him if he had a chl and if he was carrying. He told him yes and the officer asked him to place it on the dash and come back to his vehicle.
After about 30 minutes had passed my buddy came back and said he was royally chewed out for about 20 minutes and then the officer calmed down and told him he was a chl teacher and was not going to give him a ticket.
The correct procedure if you have a chl in Oklahoma is to place both hands on the steering wheel and the first words out of your mouth is I have a chl and I am carrying.
Anything else can get you a 500 dollar fine and they will keep your drivers license.
Just for your information if ever in Oklahoma.

Actually it is:

"Sir! I have a CHL and I am carrying, Sir!"

"Y'all come back now, hear!"

Oklahoma is a "Must Inform Officer" state.

Here in Florida we don't have to inform the police that we are carrying.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

There are a few must inform state but the majority or not. Remember going through a check point in Indiana and informed the officer. It isn't required there and kind of confused him. Always check the laws for the states you are traveling in.

BTW, good thing the OP was in Canton OH, no telling what would have happened.
