Anyone from Alabama? Do I need a gun safety coarse to apply for my CCW permit?

If you are asking does AL require a CCW or gun safety course to apply for a pistol permit the answer is no. On the other hand I think most people think taking one is a good idea, anyway.

Thanks. I do plan on taking a firearm self defense class.

It is handled by the Sheriff. And, I think they have discretion as to the level of training and evidence of training required. The Sheriff also has the right to put restrictions on it, regarding type, capacity, and locations where you can carry.

I wouldn't worry so much about whether it's needed, rather I would take a firearms training course as well as any self defense courses you plan on taking whether requisite or not.
