I agree with that, really how much does an extra mag or two weigh? Not much, I carry two extra mag in addition to the 8 rounds onboard my gun.

Make the ones you have count!

Oh yea, you want to carry extra weight? Make it a knife you're good with.

The benefits of this school of thought will pay a larger return than any extra ammo you may hump!

I'll always make the ones I have count but id still feel better with a little extra. I'm not saying ill be rolling and sliding behind cover pissing away rounds, laying doing cover fire and changing mags like in a Bruce Willis movie.

I just think its a little funny that so many in the concealed carry world advocate being prepared for anything and everything don't carry an extra mag. I'm not trying to be an ass but I think its highly ironic.

The way I see it is that if I need more than 3 or 4 rounds it maybe climbed up from SD category but it just makes me so happy to carry extra amo...

You can't 'preplanned' a fire fight/attack so there is a reason to carry a reasonable reload. I am an 'old' revolver guy so I know the meaning of 'fire discipline', but I still carry an extra mag. Those of us who now carry autos know that you may need to dis-guard a mag depending on what type of 'stoppage' you may encounter. I would rather have 15 rounds I did not need than not have 1 I DID need!!!
But I agree completely with you on the 'up close' portion of your post. That is what I teach in my Armed Self Defense classes!!!!

I think it should be personal preference in all actuality if you get in a sd situation with a firearm first shots all the bad guys take off running they are cowards. I carry a 1911 with one spare mag in an shtf situation you pistol is always used to fight to your long gun or shotgun. Then you get into the pocket pistols where the point is smallest and lightest then a spare is counter productive. If I knew I was going to have a sd situation then I would carry my 870. It always comes down to carry comfortable otherwise you will start to notice you skip carrying and then you will not even bother. #1 rule to winning a gun fight: have a gun.

Depending in the location I'm going or the job I'm doing (private investigator) I'll carry spare mags or a BUG. The only thing about NOT carrying a spare mag is that...WTF happens if your mag spring fails or you have a jam where you have to strip the mag and drop it?

Default Interesting stats

Interesting stats...that's the first time I've ever heard it just that way.

I carry a Shield, and the mags are 7 and 8 rounds, so I carry an second mag.
