I have 4 carry guns (not that I carry more than one at a time)
2 9mm
2 45
2 are full size
2 are compacts
They are ALL 1911s so I won't have to remember anything different if I get in a life/death situation.
Your cognitive processes GO AWAY so you WILL default to your LOWEST LEVEL of training. So I train with ONE PLATFORM so I have nothing to remember.
And I shoot several times a week to maintain/raise my proficiency.
And I almost always carry a spare mag full of +P+.

One other thing I learned is that the mag IS the weakest part of your equipment. I was shooting a tournament with several mags (I had bought them at gun shows for cheap. I suspect they were made in china) laying on the bench. One of them decided to unload its contents without me touching it. Fortunately, it was pointed at my leg so all the ammo and follower hit me so I was aware of the anomaly before I had to shoot.

Spend the few extra dollars for WILSON COMBAT MAGAZINES for your self defense weapons. Your life is worth it.

I only have one carry gun, at the moment. Would very much like to add to my armory, though.

To those who dont carry an extra mag because a little weight will weigh you down too much I see it this way ( to quote from a movie) "... its better to have a condemn and not need it then to need one and not have it".

How much is your life worth to you?

That's how I do it too. XD40 IWB and a TCP380 on the ankle.

I do however have 2 extra XD40 mags in the center console and 2 more in the trunk area of my Jeep.

I carry one in a Redhead knife case. Just looks like I have a folder. Why carry a spare mag? Why not? If I need it, it's there. If I have to worry about the weight of a mag or two, I'm really going to have a problem with carrying a weapon.

The biggest advantage to the auto pistol over the revolver is the quick reload. If you don't carry at least one extra mag, that advantage is lost. Why would anybody DO that?

When I carry my LC9 (7+1) I carry an extra mag. When I carry my P-07 (16+1) I dont carry an extra. But with my area starting to see more gang violence I am rethinking this. Also the LC9 is being replaced with a SIG P-938 with extended mags once it passes reliability testing.

I almost never carry an extra mag for my G36 EDC. If I go on a long trip or stay overnight somewhere, then I will take extra Mags. For a normal day like going shopping, visiting a friend or having lunch, then I just carry the G36 with no extra Mag. I will take my chances that this is enough if I have to defend myself. This is fine for me but for those that feel they need one or more mags or a second gun, I would not disagree with them.
