Carry "Unloaded" in Church as part of costume?
This may seem like a silly question but...
The wife and I decided to dress in camo BDUs for Halloween and I was contemplating bringing my M4 on a single point sling merely as a prop - obviously the magazine will be empty, chamber empty and not have any ammo on me for it or even in the car. There is a Halloween party at the church tonight and that made me wonder if I can even bring that or not? I'm in Georgia and the Concealed Carry Law states that you cannot bring a firearm "to or while at" church - GeorgiaCarry.org says this basically means you cannot even have your handgun even in your car in the church parking lot. The thing that is not clear is that does that include rifles as well and also does that stand for even if there is absolutely no ammo in it or around it anywhere?
I have had a couple people tell me it should be ok if it is completely empty and just a prop basically. Any ideas?

Based on the small bit of state law information you just provided, I personally would leave the M4 at home and hit Walmart up for a obvious looking toy black rifle.
Some laws may be viewed differently and mean something different in their interpretation to someone else, especially with authority.

Why make a cop wonder; get an obvious toy. You might be able to find one that makes a noise or flashes, as a bonus.

Ok, that is pretty much what I thinking was the safest bet anyway. My understanding is that it would be legal to carry it for the costume if walking around the neighborhood, etc...

Many moons ago went to private Halloween party with GF. She went in Roaring 20's flapper costume and I went as gangster. Got costume with plastic toy pistol and shoulder holster. GF at last minute wanted plastic toy pistol for garder belt. Used my real .38 unloaded revolver for my pistol prop. When some party goers saw real pistol they become somewhat upset. Most people there didn't care, however, I ended up locking it up in trunk of car (my decision) to keep the peace. Party went well and GF and I had a grand time.
So..... I'd say get a toy plastic prop. Packing around a real unloaded firearm for a prop at a party, where you may not know all people there, doesn't usually work well at least in my limited experience.

Years ago some friends and I went out dressed as Orcs, just after LOTR came out. I used a homemade club and mace as props hanging from a leather and chain belt. 
I got lots of stares and some odd looks but no overall hassell. Funny thing about it, I could have crushed a cinder block with the club and obliterated a skull with the mace.

You would be better off if you just found a plastic toy gun with the bright orange tip on it. If they do not allow handguns I am sure that they would frown on you showing up with a M4. Loaded or un-loaded. Hope you have a Happy Holloween.
