His reply was that there is absolutely no need for it, as it is safe around here and "when do you ever feel so unsafe that you need to conceal and carry?"

Isn't it ironic that the most horrendous crimes usually take place where "things like that just never happen around here."

Tell your friend he's full of it and carry if you feel the need...being prepared is not being paranoid.

Amen Jpyle. If being prepared meant being paranoid, what does that make the boy scouts?

Yeah, I'm gonna have to side with the guys who brought up the fire extinguisher comments. Your "friend" sounds like he's in the wrong business.

We were out camping the other day, and some loud, seedy,

obnoxious types were right next to us making a scene.

My GF walks up to me,

nervously sez "Do you have your gun on you?"

{Rack the slide, engage safety,} "Yup." ...

I don't expect trouble where I go, but cannot guarentee there won't be trouble. So I carry to protect myself and my family. Dirt balls can go anywhere you can go.

therewolf,

Why don't you carry hot, in condition 1? If those fellas had started to make trouble before you had loaded the chamber, you could have totally lost your advantage.

Exactly!

I can think of many situations where you won't have the opportunity to rack the slide. However, I know a few people who carry that think I'm stupid for doing so.

Oh come on guys. You know it's always cooler to rack the slide. Kidding.

But seriously, why don't you carry with one in the chamber?

REALLY? OKAY...

"pounce attack"--fairly uncommon

"Negligent Discharge"--ALL TOO COMMON.

While I'm willing to take my chances against a

pounce attack, I would NEVER forgive myself for

a ND. It's that simple.

Are you concerned about the gun malfunctioning, a situation where the trigger is accidentally pulled, or both?

I'm not trying to pounce, I'm just trying to understand another person's POV.
