If you are starting with limited funds, go with the "good carry belt" first.

For best style, comfort and carry efficacy I'd recommend an 1 1/2" width.

If you scrimp for haute couture, you'll look good dead.
I am in full agreement with Canebrake on this. A thousand dollar gun flopping around on a $10.00 belt makes no sense. You need a belt that will actually carry the weight on the firearm and holster without sagging or twisting.

Spend the money on a good belt and you will never have to buy another cheap belt.
