A replica "air soft" gun he was trying to hide in the back seat when stopped. I seriously doubt he understands the magnitude of his poor choices.

People that go around poppin' other people with paint guns or pellet guns are prime candidates for the Darwin Award.

When I was younger we went with my dad to some sort of cowboy reanactment show, they were using blanks in their colt peacemakers and demonstrated how deadly even blanks could be, by shooting at a watermelon from about 3-4 ft away, let's just say I wouldn't wanna be that watermelon. Now it didn't explode it but did enough damage I'm sure ut would kill/ seriously injure a person.

Back in the '70s, I think, a famous Hollywood actor (I don't remember who) killed himself that way. He was clowning around, stuck the blank pistol up to the side of his head and literally blew his brains out.

Here is an article about the actor. 1984. I'm not sure it is the same event I remembered, but it is similar:

I remember that...it was a really popular show...brand new. Shot himself on the set in front of everybody, IIRC...

As far as the paintball incident goes some of the guns they have now without the hopper on look like a assault rifle.

In the U.S. I can see this being a death wish, in Europe where citizens are not allowed to own a hand gun, I can see it being somewhat effective as a panic starter. I would have it loaded with the flares as they would burn like hell if hit with one, or use it as a club.

Trip, yes that was the 8th grader. He had a death wish also, the report stated he refused to put the gun down repeatedly.
