The best gun will always be the one you are proficient with and trust your life with, regardless of brand or caliber.

That's a FACT!

My motto is: "the best gun is the one in your hand, when you need it".

The best one to carry, is the best one that fits your hand and what you shoot most accurately wether it be in .38 Spl, 9mm, 40 cal, .44 Spl, .45 ACP or .10mm

You see there is no correct answer by anyone other than what fits you best, not me or any other poster but you alone.

I carry all kinds of guns for self defense, try carrying different type of semi autos and revolvers, i guarantee you will spend alot of money until you found the right gun. I prefer Glock 33 in .357 Sig

Just had to post. I just got my Sig 357 P239 and I LOVE it. Great balance for a big round. I changed the grips to Pachmahr and it really sits well in my hands. Just high right now from a great first day at the range. Although I had that cheap Pelloit and something ammo. Not so great. Any suggestions on a decent cheap range ammo for this gun? Thanks guys...and gals?

SIG 357 is a magnificent weapon, but it's limited in ammo variety. Bulk ammo from Cabela's will probably be your best bet. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0024230215349a.shtml

My carry preference is a CZ75B, 40 cal. Unfortunately, it's heavy and fairly large. So it's dedicated as my vehicle weapon during the summer months. I keep a P3AT in my pocket virtually all the time. I don't care for a 380 as a knock-down round, but it certainly beats having nothing. I also occasionally carry my 45ACP. It packs a nice wallop.

To begin with, the best gun is the 1 you have with you when the need arises. The 2nd consideration is,like the other posters stated, the 1 you can hit with and is 110% reliable.
