Full size gun? Not really---a belly-band holster works GREAT with a smaller lightweight pistol like my Kahr CW9 or my slim little Walther PPS 9mm---I wouldn't even try a full-size steel 1911---too big---too heavy. The current crop of smaller 9mm/40 pistols are ideal for belly-bands.
Also depends on your body size and type---also the type of clothing you wear.
