It always amazes students that i really did carry a 6.5" 44 mag as a concealed carry piece for a little over six months, steady, and for two years off and on, depending on where i was working. If there was a real threat of bears, or a chance to pot some deer meat, the 629 went in my waistband.

The XD 45 compact is a 4" barrell, the other 45 is a 5" barrell, that is why my carry is a sub compact 45 Taurus, the XD is in my car console, and the other XD stays in the house on my desk.

1911 ftw. Colt Commander would be my choice. The reason being that it's slimmer than these other guns, therefore, more easily concealable. I would even carry a full-size with the 5" barrel. Keep in mind that 1911 is heavier than these others too because it is not a polymer frame.

Once again....the XD in 45 acp comes in 3 options.

tacticle(don't ask if you don't remember) - full grip, 5" barrel
Service - full grip, 4" barrel
Compact - shortened grip, 4" barrel with extended mag

Capacities are either 13+1 or 10+1, the 10+1 is either a Cali gun or the compact with the shortened mag.

I can make a 4" service disappear but not as easily as I can a 1911. The 1911 hasn't become my carry gun yet, I'm still playing with it.

As soon as we get CC here in Wisconsin I will be carrying the SAI 4" Champion Operator. It fits real nice in the small of my back and has great sight acquisition. All we need now is to get rid of our POS liberal governor and I'll be pack'n.

FYI - I've posted elsewhere, but I went with a Colt Combat Commander, 70 series. It disappears in my 5.11 Tactical dress Kakis and leather IWB holster, and I'm 6'2" and only weigh 130 lbs...

A few years back, i carried a Glock30 45acp. It's a fine pistol that conceals easily.
