If you are carrying a quality gun such as Sig P238 or P232 you don't have to worry about JHP not feeding. The Buffalo Bore flat nose +P .380 100 grain bullet will penetrate 31 inches in testing. I would never ever carry a .380 gun that would not feed what I wanted to carry in it. From all I have read and seen Buffalo Bore +P .380 is the best made for SD in .380.

30" seems excessive, granted it would penetrate less on an actual person, hopefully

I wouldn't be afraid of shooting a few and then use them for my carry round. The older .380 guns like the Remington 51 will not operate on today's so called standard pressure loads. It takes the +P ammo to get it to work properly. I think the . 380 has been watered down from years past with all the rest of the ammo like 10mm and .357 Sig for examples. A lot of all the ammo is watered down stuff compared to what LE use. My son and I was shooting our 40S&W Glock 27s one day. He slipped a round of state police ammo in one of my magazines without telling me. When I got to that round I thought my gun blew up. The difference in recoil and sound was unreal. He thought it was funny.

I shot about four rounds of Buffalo Bore in my Bersa .380 and they are potent. But I prefer to carry Hornady Critical Defense, less muzzle flash, low recoil, and go thru 4 layers of denim while still getting 11 inches penetration in ballistic gel. To me that says it is a round I want to carry.
