I would call it a Home Invasion because from the point of the home owner it was an invasion. It was sudden, loud, violent, and forced entry. She feared for her life. I say tough to the "burglars" if someone turns out to be home while they break in, it should be an even greater crime and penalty. The law should protect the innocent victim and see things from their point of view.

In a perfect world aye....Cheers to the lady who took the steps to defend herself.

I don't think it was a "home invasion."
Call it what you want to. i'll call it a home invasion. IMO: Perps who break into occupied homes are home invaders and are subject to being shot; no warning required.

If someone bursts into a home and the occupant has a reasonable fear of eminent peril, defense is justified.

If it takes time to gain entry, the occupant should make an attempt to dissuade the intruder. If the intrusion persists and the home is breached and the occupant has a reasonable fear of eminent peril, defense is justified.

It may be legal, but it's just not righteous to know an invasion is occurring and lay in wait to ambush the intruder in justifiable defense. Even if I were alone in the house, if I heard or saw someone trying to break in, I would scream "WE have guns!" It lets them know the home is occupied and gives the illusion of multiple defenders. After that, it's his decision whether or not we're in the paper tomorrow
.
Rubbish. If someone breaks into a home that is not their own, or without the owner's permission, he knew the job was dangerous when he took it. Everyone should have the absolute right to protect life and limb, home and hearth.

I agree FUDO. Why should the benifit be for them? Why should they get a warning and you don't. Someone walks in uninvited, there should be no mercy. I do believe that if you can, diffuse the situation. But if you feel an OUNCE of fear for your life, then by all means, do what you think is best.

Two "blasts" of a 12ga shotgun off her back porch would have run them off

I do not defend my NEED for anything firearms related. We do not live in a socialist society based on need. I NEED a 30 round magazine over a 10 round just as much as someone NEEDS a Corvette over a Civic.

Woman alone at home sick. Probably half, if not asleep. Heard men trying to knock down door. She should have stopped and warned them, I'm home. I have gun. I'm going back to my bedroom to get it and and will use it. Sure!

She was probably scared as to the point of crapping in her clothes. She did great given the circumstances calling it what you want, home invasion or burglary. Do wish she'd had better aim and taken them both out. More taxpayer money down the drain.

Exactly. I get so sick of hearing liberals say you don't NEED a 30 round magazine to hunt deer, as if the 2nd amendment was about deer hunting anyway. Never mind the fact that it is already illegal in most (maybe all?) states to hunt deer with such a weapon. I don't NEED a firearm to hunt deer. I get by just fine with my compound bow. The chances are I will never NEED to defend myself with my .40 S&W and if I ever do I will not NEED all 16 rounds to do so. I also do not NEED some twit in Washington, D.C. to tell me what I NEED. I didn't buy my guns because I NEED them. I bought them because I wanted them and because it was my constitutional right to do so.
