Really Mr. McCool? Don't you think that would have been in the article if she HAD? And instead of "eventually the burglars made it to the room where the homeowner was hiding..." If this was a home invasion taking care of her would have been the first action -- that's what it means.

Why the insistence of pretending this is something it clearly was not? To make her gun-related actions more credible, even justified!?

They were in her house, She was alone. She was in fear for her life. OK Let's move on but be intellectually honest.

Really? Ok, some woman defended herself. We get it. She was home sick. She heard a noise. She got her gun and hid in the closet. The neighbor heard noise. He got his gun and scared one of the home invaders. The cops caught them. What secret squirrel crap did I miss?

I'm sorry. Was that too much sarcasm for you?

I don't know if you missed anything. But words are important. And to misread or mislead people I'd prefer to leave to the Left. This was no more a dreaded "home invasion" than it was a gang of Berserkers that came in the back door to rape, plunder, and kill everyone.

BTW, my guess is if she had let them know she was there they would have run off screaming BEFORE she fired the shot instead of after...

MrMcCool, why would you ever announce you're armed? That's giving up a tactical advantage. Surprise is a very powerful advantage in a violent encounter. I'm not a big guy, but with surprise on my side I have beaten many men much larger and more powerful than me in fist fights.

Self defense is not warfare. If you can find any way to survive a situation without violence, do it. I am not opposed to killing. There is no line I wouldn't cross to ensure the survival of myself and my family. But if there is any alternative.....

We are getting way off topic and becoming political here. She was right to shoot the intruder.

Of course she was justified. I hate to say it, but I wish she would've had a double barrel shotgun so the LACs wouldn't have to pay for medical care and worry about these guys doing this again.

It's quite easy to second guess.

Personally, I trained my wife to keep her cell on it's charger in the master bath, to gather the kids there, get the firearm that's secured there, lock the door and call 911... and shoot to kill anyone coming through that door.

You can not say that a woman hiding with a gun and only firing upon being discovered "in her home" is an ambush...

I only wish she had an AR and plugged em both.

If someone bursts into a home and the occupant has a reasonable fear of eminent peril, defense is justified.

If it takes time to gain entry, the occupant should make an attempt to dissuade the intruder. If the intrusion persists and the home is breached and the occupant has a reasonable fear of eminent peril, defense is justified.

It may be legal, but it's just not righteous to know an invasion is occurring and lay in wait to ambush the intruder in justifiable defense. Even if I were alone in the house, if I heard or saw someone trying to break in, I would scream "WE have guns!" It lets them know the home is occupied and gives the illusion of multiple defenders. After that, it's his decision whether or not we're in the paper tomorrow.
